Public Limited Company Sadales tīkls is a power company whose core business is the supply of electricity, a product necessary to the user, to each specific customer within the area covered by the company's license, ensuring the operation, upgrading and planned development of distribution networks.
Sadales tīkls AS commenced legally independent operation on 1 July 2007, when Latvia complied with the provisions of the European Union (EU) directives, which envisaged gradual liberalisation of the electricity market. During the restructuring of Latvenergo AS, electricity transmission and distribution system operators were legally separated.
Sadales tīkls AS ensures the supply of electricity to over one million electricity users, with its services covering 99% of the country’s territory, as well as performs monitoring of electricity use, activities aimed at reducing losses, electricity metering, and creation of new connections where necessary.
The combined length of electricity distribution networks at the beginning of 2011 was 90,928 kilometres – more than twice the circumference of the Earth along the equator. To provide its distribution services, Sadales tīkls AS uses low-voltage (0.4 kV) and medium-voltage (6 – 20 kV) facilities. Medium-voltage (6 – 20 kV) network makes around one-third (34 thousand kilometres) of the distribution system; low-voltage (0.4 kV) networks – around two-thirds. 24,601 transformer substations (6-20/0.4 kV) and 443 distribution points ensure the supply of electricity to the users’ electrical installations connected to the electricity network.
Aware of its role in the general economy of Latvia, considering that electricity is an essential product for the development of contemporary society, the company has set its main goal to be an efficient and dynamic provider of electricity distribution services, maintaining the reliability of electricity supply, improving customer care and service availability, and caring for the environment. The company supports compliance to the recognised standards of quality and rational use of resources.
