On 26 April 2011, at a festive event, Sadales tīkls AS received the Quality Management Systems Certificate ISO 9001:2008 and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Certificate OHSAS 18001:2007. The certificates were issued by the auditing company SIA Det Norske Veritas Latvia.
Undertaking its operations legally and independently on 1 July 2007, Sadales tīkls AS established as its main goal to be an effective and dynamic provider of electricity distribution services; maintain a safe electricity supply; and improve the client service, access to services, and the environment. In support of the observation of recognised quality standards and the rational utilisation of resources, Sadales tīkls AS began a process of implementation of an integrated management system (IMS) already in February 2008. Integrated certification is a way of simultaneously certifying a management system in accordance with two or more standards. The integrated management system of Sadales tīkls AS combines three management systems:
- a quality management system in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008;
- an environmental management system in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004;
- an occupational health and safety management system in accordance with the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007.
Altogether in little more than two years’ time, tremendous effort has been invested in the development of an integrated management system. Processes have been streamlined, unified procedures have been developed, and documentation for the entire system has been put in order. In implementing an integrated management system, Sadales tīkls AS is presenting itself as a company whose management is thinking about long-term development, not only at the company level, but also on the level of the entire country. To date, the company has provided clients with safe, quality services and has provided for the work safety and professional development of its employees, and the certificates received are a significant affirmation of a work practice implemented and executed in a quality manner over the course of several years.
While presenting the certificates to Sadales tīkls AS, chairman of the board Andis Pinkulis, and the director of the Certification Division of SIA Det Norske Veritas Latvia, Agris Aizpurietis, remarked that “the work segment that was initiated has been concluded, but nothing has really ended, because the processes that relate to the certified fields need to be defended every day.”
In March of last year, Sadales tīkls AS received the Environmental Management System Certificate ISO 14001:2004, which affirms that the company’s environmental management system is judged by the standard of best practices. The quality management system certificate ISO 9001:2008 that was obtained now demonstrates the quality functioning of the management and control system. For the client this provides assurance that the company cares about the quality of its services by maintaining a quality management system, periodically undergoing an independent inspection by an auditor, and affirming the effectiveness of the system with a certificate. Furthermore, this certificate affirms that the company employs competent and professional personnel who operate according to developed, set quality-system procedures.
The OHSAS 18001:2007 Certificate demonstrates the company’s resolve to care for employees’ occupational health and safety (OHS). The OHS management system allows for the purposeful lessening of the company’s occupational health and safety risks and the implementation of corresponding policies and goals, in turn taking into consideration the legal requirements. OHSAS 18001 is a widely recognised OHS management system standard that can be applied by a company in any field.
An integrated management system has been implemented at the company, in which our wish is that the awareness as beneficiaries is not only ours, and that of the company’s employees, but we also wish that our clients feel this pledge every day!
